trim fat and build muscle

Do we want to lose weight or lose body fat?

A big mistake dieters make is approach losing weight and losing body fat in the same manner.

If a diet is not implemented properly, muscle tissue can be lost instead of body fat. In attempting to lose body fat, dieters can make the mistake of restricting what they eat. If this approach is taken, the body begins to guard its fat stores because it feels that it will soon be entering a time of starvation. The weight that is being lost is actually muscle tissue and water weight. Not only does this approach fail, it creates many health hazards. The bodies metabolism is slowing down dramatically and in effect will make it harder to lose body fat.

To achieve a lean body with low body fat percentage, a proper diet and exercise program must be in place. Individuals with normal weight may still have large amounts of visceral fat or fat wrapped around the organs. That is why eating well and exercise is recommended for everyone, not just for people trying to burn excess body fat.

A balanced diet will ensure that the body breaks down the food and uses it as energy. If the body is not starved of any nutrients, it will perform better when pushed during exercise.

Body fat is lost when the body is being pushed at a moderate pace. For the first 30 minutes of a workout the glycogen stores will be used up as energy. Once the glycogen stores are depleted, fat will be the main source of energy. The most fat is used when the individual is doing moderate exercise within their target heart rate. Be sure to read the plateau section to figure out your target heart rate.

Please watch what you eat and don't restrict your meals to once a day. You will burn more fat if your body has all of its nutrients. Our main priority is losing body fat not weight.
