Stomach Exercises
There are many misconceptions when combating belly fat. The main one being that crunches are the best way to burn off the fat surrounding the stomach.
Fat loss mainly takes place in the aerobic phase of a workout. Keep in mind that crunches and sit ups are anaerobic exercises. (click the exercise tab for more on aerobic and anaerobic exercises)
Stomach Exercises for fat loss -
Running - Running requires very little to get started and the results can be very rewarding. If done properly, you can lose weight simply by running and monitoring what you eat. Tip: It is important to keep track of your heart rate while exercising. The majority fat loss takes place when the heart rate is at 60-70% of the maximum heart rate. click here to find your maximum heart rate. Running is a great stomach exercise. Try running in regions that have lots of slopes and watch how your abdominals get to work!
Swimming - Swimming is also a great weight loss exercise. This is often recommended as alternative to running because it is easier on the joints. Swimming works key points of the body all at once. These include your back, legs, abs, and arms. This exercise is a great way to keep the body well toned.
Stomach Exercises for toned abs
Stability Ball - If you are going to be performing crunches, the implementation of the stability ball will produce better results. The stability ball works more muscles than a regular crunch. As a result the abdominal work-out is more intense.
Bicycle Ab Exercise - This exercise is similar to a sit up except it involves the use of the legs. The legs move in a pedaling motion opposite to the shoulders as the sit up is performed. This exercise is perfect for the lower abdominals which can be a troublesome area to tone.
As new exercises are implemented, set up goals and monitor your progress. It is easy to get discouraged especially when dealing with body fat in one of the most troublesome areas. Remember that aerobics are for fat lost and anaerobic exercises are mainly for toning.
As you proceed with your weight loss goals, keep in mind that fat is not spot reduced. Include plenty of compound exercises in your work out for optimum results. The abdominal works like any other muscle. Be sure to allow plenty of rest for recovery.
